Empower your users to report suspicious emails with the Phish Alert Button from KnowBe4 and Microsoft
After 4 years in the making, The Microsoft Ribbon Phish Alert Button (PAB) has been added to Microsoft Outlook. This feature makes it much easier to report phishing and get security teams to monitor and take action against these criminals. It was made possible because of a collaborative effort from Microsoft and our partner KnowBe4.
Having this feature available in Outlook is a great leap forward since it has previously not been anywhere near as straightforward to report phishing emails due to different vendors offering their reporting buttons in different ways. Understandably, this has meant that few users have been taking action when discovering a phishing attempt. The new button is conveniently located, and integrated seamlessly into the Outlook ribbon, making it user-friendly and easy to report phishing with just a click, streamlining the process for Microsoft users and bringing the issue of phishing to light.
A further benefit of the PAB is the awareness that it will bring to organisations around phishing as employees will understand the severity of the attacks when they are made aware of the new feature, and will learn the need to report it as soon as possible.
As an employee, you are a critical part of your organisation's defence against these scams, and reporting phishing emails is crucial as it is the only way to stop them from catching others, as simply ignoring any emails that you suspect to be phishing will leave others vulnerable to receiving them, and potentially exposing them to the damaging consequences. The PAB makes it easier than ever to safeguard your organisation and have a positive impact in maintaining a secure email environment.
The addition of the button is a very welcome change, however, users must be aware that they should check suspicious emails thoroughly to make sure that they aren't reporting an innocent email as phishing.
Thinking to the future, the efficiency of dealing with phishing attacks will greatly improve as more organisations adopt the feature, which will help with the dealing with and prevention of scam emails.
Microsoft and KnowBe4 collaborated to make this feature a reality, and you can hear more from them on the subject in this video.
