2026 has seen a flurry of updates from Commvault. This March has seen a number of updates released for industry-leading data protection platform. These new features and enhancements provide even greater value and innovation for our customers.

Continue to read about the latest enhancements made.

Commvault Cloud Protection

Ability to view audit logs for resources

Administrators can now view detailed audit logs to monitor changes and access events within their environment. This includes tracking activities such as server modifications, user access updates, and configuration changes.

This feature helps improve security and simplify compliance by enabling transparent tracking of all resource-related actions. Audit data includes detailed entity history, allowing for more accurate analysis, accountability, and informed decision-making.

Cloud Rewind: Recovery Output Preview for Azure Assembly

Preview Azure Assembly recovery outcomes to clearly see expected results and restore applications with greater confidence and predictability.

Cost Transparency for Extended Retention and Cross-Cloud Copies

Within the Cost Estimator module, this feature allows customers to select predefined data retention periods and immediately view the projected storage requirements and associated costs for each scenario. By providing instant visibility into cost and capacity impact, it enables more informed decision-making—helping organizations manage expenses effectively while aligning data protection strategies with best practices.

Empowering Tenant users with Asset Visibility with Permission Enhancements

This feature empowers Tenant users to discover and view their own cloud assets directly within the platform, enabling them to conduct impactful demonstrations and troubleshoot issues independently. By reducing reliance on additional support resources, sales teams can engage prospects more quickly, clearly showcase product value, and help accelerate sales cycles while enhancing the overall customer experience.

New Centralised Backup Plan Management Across Cloud Environments

This feature enables users to create, manage, and assign backup plans across their cloud resources through an intuitive experience. Teams can quickly configure schedules and protection settings, easily review and modify existing plans, and apply them consistently across environments. The result is simplified data protection, reduced administrative effort, and greater operational efficiency.

SaaS Applications and Active Directory

Automated VM Provisioning for Domain Controller Promotion in Forest Recovery

As part of completing an enterprise Active Directory forest recovery, organizations must rebuild any remaining domain controllers that were not restored directly from backup. These servers are promoted from clean systems to fully reconstitute AD infrastructure across domains and locations.

Commvault now automatically provisions a fresh virtual machine from a trusted Windows Server ISO as part of the domain controller promotion process.

With automated VM provisioning, Commvault:

- Helps eliminate the need to pre-stage Windows Server images
- Enables promotion of domain controllers from clean infrastructure
- Helps streamline full forest reconstruction after a cyber event

The result is a simpler, safer, and more automated path to restoring complete AD infrastructure at enterprise scale.

This capability is available with the Active Directory Enterprise Edition license.

Expanded Forest Recovery Support on AWS EC2

In ransomware scenarios, recovering Active Directory to clean infrastructure is critical. Commvault is expanding out-of-place domain controller recovery to include AWS EC2, allowing organizations to rebuild AD forests on fresh cloud-based systems when on-premises servers are unavailable or compromised.

With support across Hyper-V, Azure, VMware, and now AWS, Commvault delivers greater flexibility and resilience for enterprise Active Directory recovery.

Available with the Active Directory Enterprise Edition license.

Protection for Microsoft Intune Device Compliance Policies and Configuration Profiles

Modern endpoint security depends on properly configured Intune policies. To help protect that foundation, we are adding backup and recovery support for Microsoft Intune device compliance policies and device configuration profiles.

Customers can now protect policy definitions, assignments, compliance scripts, and related configurations – enabling fast recovery from accidental changes, misconfigurations, or malicious tampering. This supports the continuity of compliance enforcement and helps  reduce risk to endpoint security posture.

This capability is available with the Active Directory Standard Edition license.

Workload Protection

Amazon DynamoDB: Auto-provision compute resources for protection operations

This feature adds the support for auto-provisioning of compute resources that dynamically adjusts compute capacity based on the size and growth of your protected databases, reducing manual configuration and enabling optimal performance and improved operational efficiency during backup, restore, and export operations—especially for large or rapidly scaling datasets. This enhancement helps simplify operations, lower management overhead, and keep your data protection workflows aligned with business-scale demands.

Amazon EC2: Enable automated cross-region and cross-account snapshot sharing

Automated cross-region and cross-account snapshot sharing simplifies data management by automatically replicating snapshots, eliminating manual steps, and allowing near seamless restoration in target locations. Customers enjoy increased operational efficiency, enhanced security through secure data transfer and integrity, while leveraging robust reporting for tracking activities.

Amazon S3: Auto-provisioning and auto scaling of access nodes

Amazon S3 now supports auto-provisioning and auto scaling of access nodes for backup and recovery.

Azure Lustre: Changelog integration for fast scanning

This feature integrates Azure Lustre changelog information, enabling users to run faster and more efficient file scans. It helps them complete backup jobs quickly, reduces the impact on system performance, and eliminates the need for time-consuming recursive scans on their high-performance file system.

Azure NetApp Files: Simplified onboarding

The updated onboarding experience for Azure NetApp Files streamlines setup and aligns the workflow with other protected workloads, delivering a consistent and simplified user experience.

Azure VMs: Bring your own Storage Gateway (SaaS)

The "Bring your own Storage Gateway" feature enables customers to use self-hosted VMs as data backup gateways and storage when backing up using Commvault Cloud (SaaS). This ensures the data remains within the customer's tenancy, enhancing security and reducing risks of data breaches, thereby improving peace of mind and control over sensitive information.

Google BigQuery: Backup and Restore of configurations with data

This enhancement enables administrators to back up and restore BigQuery external connection settings, routines, and IAM bindings—including table-level permissions and row-level access policies. Teams can easily move external data links, routines, and access controls across projects without manual reconfiguration, simplifying management and establishing consistent data governance.

HPE Morpheus: Use HPE Alletra Storage API for VM backups

HPE Alletra Storage API Integration offers simplified virtual machine backup and recovery on HPE Alletra for IT administrators. Customers benefit from native, snapshot-based data protection, addressing specific partner demands and enhancing their HPE ecosystem experience, establishing a robust, integrated, and unified VM backup solution with reduced operational risk.

NAS & File Systems: Independent snap scheduling and retention

This feature brings the ability to schedule and retain hardware snapshots separately from the external backup, delivering lower RPO/RTO and recovery flexibility:

- NetApp
- Dell EMC Isilon/PowerScale
- Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP
- Nutanix Files
- Windows Volumes
- Linux Volumes

VM Replication: Preserve disk layout changes during failback across supported hypervisors and clouds

Commvault now preserves disk configuration changes made to replicated virtual machines during failback operations across supported hypervisor and cloud combinations.
