This June, Commvault have released a whole host of updates for their industry-leading platforms. These new features and enhancements provide even greater value and innovation for our customers.

Cloud Workload Protection

Periodic Replication Support for Nutanix AHV in Commvault Cloud SaaS

Commvault Cloud SaaS now supports periodic data replication for Nutanix AHV. This feature keeps your data consistently replicated at periodic intervals and readily accessible, enhancing both application availability and resilience.

Auto-Scaling for Amazon EC2 Recovery

Auto-scaling for Amazon EC2 recovery enables dynamic adjustment of EC2 capacity based on conditions you define. This allows you to maintain the appropriate number of Commvault Cloud access nodes needed for recovery, replication, and indexing tasks. Auto-scaling helps optimize workload performance and reduce costs by leveraging a mix of purchase options and EC2 instance types.

Cross Geo Region Restore for Azure CVM

The Cross Geo Region Restore feature for Azure Confidential VMs enables Azure Administrators to easily restore VMs with customer-managed keys across different regions, helping to enable data integrity and compliance with data sovereignty regulations in the event of a cyber incident. This functionality provides users with flexibility and peace of mind, improves cyber resiliency and helps to maintain continuity and security in their Azure environments.

Customize Persistent Disks During Restore

You can select the persistent disk type, name, IOPS, and throughput during restores or migrations to Google Cloud VMs. Previously, restores applied smart defaults or the original VM disk type settings, and IOPS and throughput were not preserved, requiring manual adjustments after the restore. You can either accept smart defaults or customize each recovered disk to align with your performance and cost goals. True cyber resilience demands reliable, cost-effective recovery, which customized disk recovery now provides.

Google Cloud Virtual Machine Protection and Self-Service Onboarding

You can protect and recover your Google Cloud Compute Engine VMs with Commvault Cloud SaaS. Commvault protects your VMs and Persistent Disks through snapshots and streaming backup copies, enabling reliable recovery. VM onboarding is streamlined through automated configuration of protection plans aligned with your business requirements.

Resource Filtering for Granular Exclusion of Kubernetes API Resources During Backups and Restores

The resource filtering feature allows Kubernetes administrators to selectively exclude API resources during backups and restores, offering fine-grained control over which resources are captured and restored to the cluster. This capability helps prevent the inclusion of sensitive data or unnecessary resources, improving data protection while reducing storage and processing demands.

Object Storage: Unified Onboarding

The updated self-service onboarding provides a simplified experience for Azure Blob Storage, Azure ADLS Gen2, and Amazon S3, aligning with other workload onboarding for a familiar experience.

Attach Up to 128 Volumes with M7i-Based EC2 Instances

You can now attach up to 128 EBS volumes to your Commvault Cloud access nodes when performing backup, restore, and replication activities. Using the new M7i instance type, you can increase the density of your protection infrastructure, while lowering overall compute costs. Combined with Commvault Cloudburst Recovery or Cleanroom Recovery, you can now recover faster by restoring more volumes at the same time.

Promoting IntelliSnap as the only option for VM Workloads

IntelliSnap is the preferred option for VM workloads, as it simplifies the backup process for administrators. By making the snapshot the default behavior, it eliminates the need for additional steps and reduces complexity. This change brings value by making backup management easier and streamlining the process for the end customer.

Protect AWS cloud databases with export-based approach in Commvault Cloud hosted infrastructure

Safeguard AWS Cloud databases using an export-based method utilizing Commvault Cloud SaaS hosted infrastructure within AWS. This approach allows administrators to protect data efficiently and cost-effectively.

Protect self-managed databases in AWS using Commvault-hosted infrastructure

Protect your self-managed databases, such as Oracle, SAP HANA, MS SQL, and so on, in AWS using Commvault’s cloud-hosted infrastructure. This approach allows administrators to protect data efficiently and cost-effectively.

Restarting snapshot job at the group level

Backup administrators can now restart snapshot jobs at the group level, making it easier to manage and resubmit jobs from a single, central location. This streamlined approach removes the need to restart individual jobs manually and promotes more efficient operations, especially for large VM groups with multiple jobs. Supported across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and VMware.

Support Linux Backup Gateways for Cloud Databases Protection in AWS and Azure

With this feature, users can deploy and use Linux Backup Gateways with bring-your-own-gateway (BYOG) and direct-to-cloud (Commvault Cloud-hosted infrastructure) backup approaches. Support for Linux backup gateways in SaaS provides a cost-effective solution for cloud database protection in AWS and Azure environments.

Protect Google Cloud BigQuery Views and Table Schema

This feature allows administrators to protect views and table schemas. By capturing and preserving metadata alongside data, organizations can maintain the structure and logic of their analytics workflows, enabling streamlined restoration of both tables and dependent views.

On-Premises Protection

Data incremental backup support for Microsoft SQL Server

The incremental backup support for Microsoft SQL Server allows SQL DBAs to achieve faster backups for large databases, enabling them to meet backup SLAs efficiently. This feature captures only the changes between backups, enabling quick and efficient backup processes. This ultimately results in improved backup performance, reducing the time taken to meet customer SLAs for large SQL databases.

AIX 6.1 EOL

Commvault version 11.36 will be the last supported version for AIX 6.1. Customers can still use this agent per the obsolescence policy.

Solaris 10.x EOL

Commvault version 11.36 will be the last supported version for Solaris 10.x. Customers can still use this agent per the obsolescence policy.

Compare file system backups

Comparing backups allows administrators to easily identify file changes caused by admin errors or ransomware attacks. Users can compare two file system backup jobs and identify and view the files that have been added, modified, or deleted. Additionally, they can export a list of these changed files.

Support Restore Schedules for MS SQL

The restore schedule feature for MS SQL backups allows administrators to efficiently automate and schedule database restores. This helps validate the restore process by verifying that backups are accurate and restorable. Additionally, it simplifies the creation of database copies for development and testing purposes.

Nutanix AHV vTPM support

For customers using Nutanix AHV, Commvault Cloud now includes vTPM (virtual Trusted Platform Modules) support in Prism Central to enhance security for virtual machines by allowing administrators to protect and recover sensitive data using vTPM. By utilizing this feature, AHV VM administrators can validate the security and integrity of their virtual machines, adding an extra layer of protection against potential threats.

Amazon EC2 Recovery Adds Support for Repave from Known Clean State

During Amazon EC2 recovery, you can now repave protected instances by replacing the operating system disk with a verified, clean version. This process removes potential vulnerabilities or malicious changes to the OS, providing a more secure and dependable recovery approach.

Google Cloud VM Recovery Adds Support for Repave from Known Clean State

During Google Cloud Compute Engine VM recovery, you can now repave protected instances by replacing the operating system disk with a verified, clean version. This process removes potential vulnerabilities or malicious changes to the OS, providing a more secure and dependable recovery approach.

Self-service Onboarding for DB2 Databases

The self-service onboarding for DB2 database feature allows administrators to self-onboard and configure DB2 databases in SaaS environments. It eliminates the need for White Glove SRE support by enabling a streamlined and efficient process to protect the valuable database without external assistance.

AWS Support for Cleanroom Recovery in SaaS

Cleanroom Recovery now offers efficient data recovery into the AWS cloud. With automated instance conversion, you can effortlessly convert instances from various environments into Amazon EC2 instances without any manual intervention. This feature streamlines the recovery process and significantly reduces recovery time.

Automate creation of Cleanroom Recovery – Azure infrastructure (July 2025)

Commvault will automate the creation of resource groups, establish a storage account, and configure networking components like virtual networks and security groups for a Cleanroom environment. This is part of the recovery orchestration process designed to reduce manual intervention.

Automate creation of Cleanroom – Express configuration (July 2025)

Express configuration enables automated creation of Cleanrooms for Azure within SaaS environments. Utilizing single sign-on authentication for Azure, you can swiftly deploy Cleanroom infrastructure. This feature streamlines the process, saving time and allowing you to concentrate on core tasks.

FIPS 140-3 Certification

Commvault’s encryption module is now FIPS 140-3 certified. This provides organizations with a secure encryption module in their backup software, helping enable compliance with government and industry security standards. This certification enhances data protection measures, safeguarding the confidentiality and integrity of backed-up data.

Repave Nutanix AHV VMs into Azure Cleanroom

This feature enables customers to easily repave their Nutanix AHV VMs into the Cleanroom in Azure using secure golden images, reducing the time and effort required during recovery. By leveraging both public marketplace and private custom templates, customers can quickly restore data without transferring OS drive contents enabling them to recover from a know good state.


SaaS Applications and Active Directory

DevOps User-Based Metering

The licensing model for DevOps services has been updated. All three platforms—Azure DevOps, GitHub, and GitLab—will now be metered based on the number of paid users.

These changes aim to make billing more predictable and consistent with other SaaS workloads.

Entra ID: Bulk restore of objects

Commvault now offers the ability to restore Entra ID objects in bulk, enabling administrators to easily recover hundreds or thousands of deleted items at once. This enhancement is particularly beneficial in scenarios involving massive data loss in the Entra ID tenant, enabling quick restoration based on custom search criteria or recovery of all objects in the tenant following a widespread incident.

Entra ID tenant-wide comparisons

The Entra ID tenant-wide comparisons feature provides comprehensive, interactive comparison reporting for your Entra ID data. The reports identify all changed and deleted objects in your Entra ID tenant, helping you easily pinpoint and recover impacted data as quickly as possible. Comparison reports are interactive, enabling search and filtering to isolate the data that needs to be recovered, and allowing you to restore it directly from the report in a few clicks.

Backup & Recovery for DevOps

We’re excited to announce the general availability of Commvault® Cloud Backup & Recovery for DevOps, now offered as both a SaaS solution and a software deployment. This enterprise-grade solution delivers comprehensive protection for DevOps environments, including Azure DevOps, GitHub, and GitLab.

Whether you need to safeguard repositories, pipelines, or metadata, Commvault simplifies and secures your DevOps backup operations, enabling fast and granular recovery—all through a unified platform.

Create custom categories for M365 SharePoint restores

This feature for M365 allows users to restore SharePoint sites based on custom categories. Custom categories are user-defined groupings used to organize content within lists and libraries, allowing for more granular control and organization. With the ability to assign meaningful labels and tags, users can easily filter, search, and organize their SharePoint content, enhancing productivity by making it easier to find the information they need to restore.

AD Forest Recovery: Export forest recovery runbooks

Runbooks describe every step that will be taken in the case of disaster to recover the Active Directory forest. They include the DCs that will be restored, in which order, as well as all configuration steps that will be automated in AD to verify the recovered environment is consistent and operational. This level of transparency is important for AD teams who need to understand and have control of every aspect of their AD recovery plan. Now, detailed runbooks can also be exported to PDF or Excel so the AD disaster recovery plan can be shared with business stakeholders including Security teams and CIOs.

Backup and restore of Calendar and Contacts for Google Workspace

The Google Workspace backup and restore capabilities for Calendars and Contacts enable administrators to comprehensively protect user data across their organization. This helps safeguard critical information such as meetings, events, and contact details. In the event of accidental deletion or data loss, both Calendars and Contacts can be easily recovered—minimizing disruption, reducing potential data loss, and offering greater peace of mind to customers.

SaaS Apps: Allow tenant admins to edit copy properties associated to bundled storage

This feature allows tenant admins to edit copy properties related to bundled storage, enhancing flexibility and control. By granting the ability to make changes to copy properties, admins can tailor storage policies to better meet specific requirements. This added functionality streamlines management processes and empowers users to optimize storage configurations efficiently.
