Affordable Archive Solution eliminates and offers alternative for Tape Backups

Commvault, in partnership with Amazon Web Services, launched support for Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive. You can finally let go of your backup and archives on tape storage, and with Commvault send them directly to Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive. Commvault is the most comprehensive data protection platform to manage backup, recovery and e-discovery across your on-premises and cloud workloads. The new storage class Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive is priced right at $1 per TB/mo, and according to Amazon, offers its lowest cost storage in the cloud.

Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive is an ideal storage class to provide offline protection of your company’s most important data assets, or when long-term data retention is required for corporate policy, contractual, or regulatory compliance requirements. This is partly because Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive is as much as 75 percent less expensive than S3 Glacier and provides retrieval within 12 hours using the Standard retrieval speed. You may also reduce retrieval costs by selecting Bulk retrieval, which will return data within 48 hours.

Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive is also designed for the same 99.999999999 percent durability as the S3 Standard and S3 Glacier storage classes and is designed for 99.9 percent availability.

Commvault Complete™ Backup and Recovery support for Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive

The Commvault data platform already includes native support for Amazon S3/ S3-IA, Amazon S3 Glacier, Amazon S3 Reduced Redundancy Storage (RRS), Snowball and Snowball Edge, allowing customers to move data onto AWS from on-premises. Now, with Commvault and Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive, customers can eliminate the need for on-premises tape libraries, and no longer have to manage hardware refreshes and rewrite data to new tapes as technologies evolve.

To get started, simply choose Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive storage class when configuring your cloud library.

Once in the cloud, Commvault provides in-cloud protection for everything from EC2 instances, RDS instances, EBS snap management and cross-region replication of data. Commvault can write directly to multiple Amazon storage classes, including S3, SIA, RRS and Glacier, and now Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive, with no need for any storage gateway.
