A global market leading equipment supplier, who has utilised the experience of COOLSPIRiT on many infrastructure projects in the past, approached our expert team for advice on replacing their end of life Backup Exec implementation, which was not capable of protecting their critical data that is now managed and hosted in many ways compared to when Backup Exec was originally implemented.

The customer now has data residing in many on-prem locations across Europe and America and public cloud services, so it was imperative that any solution deployed was capable of protecting these locations. Superior disaster recovery capabilities were also required that had been lacking with the Backup Exec implementation.

After a review of the customer's current estate, COOLSPIRiT deployed an Arcserve UDP 8200 appliance with LTO6 tape. With advanced deduplication, the Arcserve appliance offers the capacity required for 3 years growth in 1U rack space, while additional memory in the appliance will allow the customer to utilise Arcserve’s Virtual Standby technology to stand up VM’s from the appliance in a DR situation.

To further build on DR capabilities the customer is utilising tape as a belt and brace approach, protecting against total online data loss as well as cyber threats to their data.

Two future projects are now planned to expand on the features available, these include replication to Arcserve cloud, enabling DR in the cloud and the protection of their Office 365 data for remote users, backing this up to a central location.
