During 2024 our team are truly seeing an increase in conversations with customers around their current cloud vs data centre strategies, and which is the best fit.
This recent project is no exception and continue to read to learn more from our Sales Director and Senior Project Manager who were involved in the project.

Introduction from Warren Wheatcroft, Sales Director
Our initial engagement involved repatriating our customer’s backup environment. We provided a cyber-resilient Commvault solution, complete with our GUARDiAN disk appliance and a secure air-gapped Quantum tape library.
Next, we were tasked with addressing the primary infrastructure, focusing on two key areas: major concerns with a previous ‘cloud-first’ strategy and the need to enhance cyber resiliency.
The customer shared their experiences and concerns around the cloud with us, which included limitations in accessing hosted platforms, uncertainty around increasing monthly costs, and the need for a clear cyber incident plan. They desired a new on-premises infrastructure that offered control, predictable costs and performance, and robust cyber security.
With our Pure Storage offering, the customer gained a complete understanding of ‘Flat & Fair’ ongoing support costs, predictability around growth and future expansion costs, and the added protection of a ‘Love Your Storage’ money-back guarantee, if the product didn’t meet expectations. From a cyber perspective, the key feature was SafeMode, ensuring clean, immutable snapshot copies could be accessed in the event of a cyber incident.
To replace ageing servers and networking, we conducted stringent sizing and performance data collection activities on the current environment. We provided the customer with a robust compute platform centred around the latest HPE Gen11 hardware, coupled with HPE Aruba networking. Our design incorporated built-in resiliency and sizing to accommodate predicted growth.
Finally, the customer identified the move away from upfront capex outlay as an advantage of cloud infrastructure. We addressed this with a flexible HPE Financial Services plan, which aligned with their opex budgeting.
Follow-up from Jean Jojy, Technical Project Manager
As a Project Manager within our expert team at COOLSPIRiT, I am seeing many interesting trends in the world of data centres!
I’ve noticed a growing trend of companies repatriating their data and workloads back to on-premise facilities. This shift is driven by increasing data sovereignty concerns, the need for greater control over infrastructure, and the potential cost savings of managing data in-house.
While cloud-based solutions offer many advantages, there’s a clear resurgence in the value of traditional data centres. It’s fascinating to witness this shift and explore the opportunities it presents for our customers and their IT professionals alike.
