Product updates from Commvault just keep coming along - Continue reading to learn about the updates for November 2024!
Cloud Native Workloads
AWS
Protect AWS cloud databases using AWS-hosted infrastructure
This feature allows customers to protect the Amazon RDS (Native), Amazon DocumentDB, and Amazon Redshift with the snapshot-based approach in a Commvault Cloud AWS-hosted infrastructure. This provides a simplified onboarding experience and additional cost savings since customers are not required to configure their backup gateway setup.
DynamoDB protection using S3 Export method
DynamoDB tables can now be protected using the native S3 export method and restored from a point-in-time backup. This removes front-end DynamoDB cost and eliminates any performance impact to production workloads while performing the backups.
Snapshot-based protection of Amazon RDS for DB2 instances
Commvault now supports snapshot-based backup and restore of Amazon RDS for DB2 instances, allowing for quick restores in the event of a disaster.
SaaS backup for Amazon S3 using Commvault-hosted infrastructure
Easily back up your Amazon S3 workloads using Commvault SaaS-hosted infrastructure. You can protect your data without installing additional proxy or gateway servers, resulting in a simplified backup process.
Azure
Azure Table support in SaaS
You can securely protect and back up your Azure Tables using Commvault Cloud SaaS. This ensures that the data stored in Azure Tables is safeguarded, reducing the risk of data loss or corruption, and providing easy data recovery options.
Support for Azure Ultra Disks and Premium SSDv2 Disks
Customers using Azure will now be able to easily back up and recover their high performance Ultra and SSDv2 disks through incremental snapshots. This feature ensures that important data stored in these disks can be securely saved and quickly restored when needed, providing peace of mind and minimizing the risk of data loss.
Support for Azure Confidential VMs
Protect confidential virtual machines in Azure by adding support for platform managed keys (PMK). This feature enables the protection of Azure confidential VMs in cases where the OS disk is not encrypted or when it is encrypted with PMK. However, customer managed keys (CMK) encryption is not currently supported. Safeguarding data with PMK provides enhanced security for the end customer's sensitive information.
Support for Azure VM Extensions
This feature allows customers to use Azure VM extensions in conjunction with Commvault for improved functionality and security. Commvault retains the association between the VM and the extension, ensuring that it remains intact even after restoration, providing a seamless and reliable experience for end customers.
Support for OS Disk Swap in Azure In-Place Restores
With support for OS disk swapping during in-place restores, customers can now easily replace the operating system disk on a virtual machine without having to delete and re-create the entire VM. This saves time and effort, simplifying the process of restoring VMs and minimizing disruption to business operations.
Support for Azure Trusted Launch VMs
Commvault now supports Trusted Launch VMs, adding a robust layer of security to protect your Azure virtual machines. This feature provides peace of mind with the integrity of your VMs during the launch process, safeguarding your critical data.
Common Platform
New file system agent for macOS
You can now protect macOS devices configured as a file server.
Multi-Geo Ring Switcher to map Ring ID to user friendly Geography Name
The Multi-Geo Ring Switcher or Selector feature has been simplified so multi-geo customers can access regions from another geography seamlessly. The Geo selector now shows the geography (geo) names along with Ring ID in the dropdown menu so customers can quickly switch to protect the workload in regions from another geography.
This enhances the overall user experience and ensures seamless navigation between different geographic locations.
Support for Amazon EKS using Commvault Cloud Infrastructure in AWS
Commvault Cloud SaaS has expanded its support for Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) using Commvault infrastructure hosted on AWS. This enhancement simplifies the EKS onboarding process, allowing customers to quickly and easily protect their applications running on Amazon EKS.
Cloud Rewind
Appranix is now Cloud Rewind
Appranix has been officially rebranded to Cloud Rewind. The new name embodies Commvault's mission to help businesses seamlessly rewind and recover their complex cloud environments, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
Support for Additional Regions for Cloud Rewind (Appranix) Integration
Integration of Cloud Rewind (Appranix) with Commvault Cloud (SaaS) now supports additional regions within the following geographic areas: Europe, United Kingdom, Middle East, and Australia & New Zealand.
On Prem Protection
Disk caching for frequent backups of Oracle archived logs
Disk caching enables frequent backups of Oracle and Oracle RAC archive log files, as often as every five minutes, with both compression and encryption activated. These backup systems function seamlessly, even during Commvault server maintenance, ensuring continuous protection of the database across disk and cloud libraries.
Support for Azure Stack HCI Hypervisor
Customers can use Azure Stack HCI as a standalone hypervisor in the Command Center, simplifying the configuration process. By eliminating the need to configure it as a Hyper-V hypervisor, customers benefit from a streamlined experience and can quickly leverage the capabilities of Azure Stack HCI.
Continuous Protection for SAP HANA Log Backups Using Disk Cache
This feature enables administrators to provide uninterrupted log backup support for SAP HANA, allowing log protection even when the CommServe computer is in maintenance mode. This feature ensures that the database is encrypted and transported using a Secure Data Transfer (SDT) pipeline to back up to the configured target (disk library, cloud library, or HSX).
Recovery Orchestration
Perform on-demand cleanup of recovery target
You can perform on-demand cleanup of recovered workloads and also disable automatic cleanup after Control Plane deletion. This helps you undo or reset the recovery process and ensure that all resources created during the recovery process are removed.
